The WEST PENN WIRE AQC1P2218BK1000 is a composite access control cable combining a shielded 22 AWG twisted pair for OSDP communication with an unshielded 18/2 conductor for I/O connections. This multi-conductor configuration reduces conduit fill and simplifies rough-in by consolidating two functions into a single cable run. It is designed for installation by low-voltage technicians and security system integrators working on access control projects where both data and auxiliary I/O signals must be routed to the same device or door hardware location.
This cable is suited for commercial and light commercial access control installations where OSDP-compliant card readers, keypads, or similar devices require simultaneous data and I/O wiring. The 22 AWG shielded pair handles the OSDP communication link between controller and reader, while the 18/2 unshielded conductors serve request-to-exit, door contact, or other supervised I/O circuits. It is sold by the foot or in bulk reel quantities depending on the unit of measure at purchase.
Designed as a standard access control cable for use with OSDP-compliant readers, controllers, and I/O devices in commercial low-voltage security installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or alarm systems technician in accordance with NEC Article 725 requirements for Class 2 or Class 3 signaling circuits. De-energize the access control panel and connected devices before terminating conductors. Maintain the integrity of the shielded pair twist and drain wire termination at the controller end to preserve signal quality on the OSDP communication link. Avoid running this cable in the same conduit as high-voltage power conductors without appropriate separation.
