The WEST PENN WIRE 994RD0500 is a 14 AWG, 2-conductor solid unshielded fire alarm cable rated FPLR (Fire Power Limited Riser). Designed for use in riser applications, this cable meets the requirements for installation in vertical runs between floors without the use of a conduit, where building codes permit. The red jacket provides immediate visual identification as a fire alarm circuit. Licensed fire alarm installers and low-voltage electricians typically specify this cable for life-safety wiring projects in commercial and residential structures.
This cable is suited for fire alarm notification and initiating circuits in both residential and light commercial buildings. It is commonly used to interconnect smoke detectors, pull stations, horn-strobes, and control panels in vertical riser pathways. The solid conductor construction is appropriate for fixed, in-wall, or in-conduit runs where the cable will not be subject to repeated flexing or movement after installation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-supply cable for unshielded solid-conductor FPLR fire alarm wiring applications in riser-rated installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or fire alarm technician in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC Article 760, and all applicable local codes. De-energize the fire alarm control panel and follow the panel manufacturer lockout procedure before making any wiring connections. Solid conductor cable should not be used in applications requiring repeated flexing; use stranded FPLR cable for those runs. Verify riser-rating requirements with the authority having jurisdiction before installation.
