The WELDERS CHOICE 59804005 is an E7018 low-hydrogen stick welding electrode designed for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) on steel structures and related applications. The electrode measures 1/8 inch in diameter and 14 inches in length. It is rated for AC welding polarity and operates within an amperage range of 105 to 155 amps. The E7018 classification indicates a low-hydrogen, iron-powder flux coating that produces a smooth arc, low spatter, and a strong, ductile weld deposit. This electrode is suited for welding professionals including structural welders, pipe welders, and maintenance welders working on carbon and low-alloy steel assemblies.
This electrode is intended for use on low-carbon, medium-carbon, and high-carbon steels, as well as low-alloy structural steel. Typical applications include steel structures, offshore rigs, power plant fabrication, and tack welds for tubular wire applications. The E7018 classification makes it a standard choice where notch toughness and crack resistance are required in demanding structural or industrial weld joints. It is well suited for both shop fabrication and field repair work in heavy industrial environments.
Designed for use on low-carbon, medium-carbon, high-carbon, and low-alloy structural steels. Compatible with AC-capable stick welding machines that support the 1/8 inch electrode diameter and the specified 105 to 155 amp operating range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified welder familiar with SMAW procedures and applicable codes such as AWS D1.1 for structural steel welding. Before welding, ensure the base metal is clean and free of moisture, rust, and mill scale to preserve the low-hydrogen benefits of the E7018 coating. Store electrodes in a dry environment or a rod oven to prevent moisture absorption, which can compromise weld quality and increase the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking. Follow the equipment manufacturer and applicable welding procedure specifications for preheat and interpass temperature requirements.
