The WELDERS CHOICE 59801787 is a stainless steel brazing alloy rod conforming to industry specification 316L. Each rod measures 3/32 inch in diameter and 36 inches in length, with a net weight of approximately 1 pound per package. This low-carbon alloy is formulated for brazing stainless steel assemblies where corrosion resistance is a primary concern. It is suitable for use in HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and general mechanical applications where stainless base metals require a sound, corrosion-resistant braze joint. Licensed brazing technicians and journeyman plumbers or pipefitters are the typical end users for this product.
This brazing rod is intended for use on stainless steel components in both residential and light commercial applications. Common scenarios include joining stainless tubing, fittings, and fabricated assemblies in food-grade, sanitary, or corrosive-environment piping systems. The 316L specification indicates a low-carbon variant of the 316 alloy family, which offers good resistance to intergranular corrosion after the brazing thermal cycle. Note that the low-carbon formulation is not as strong as a 316H alloy and should be selected accordingly for the service conditions of the joint.
Designed for brazing stainless steel base metals in applications requiring 316L filler material per applicable industry specifications. Confirm base metal and service-condition compatibility before use.
Brazing with stainless steel alloys should be performed by a qualified brazing technician or licensed pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the ASME Brazing and Soldering standard or AWS B2.2. Proper flux selection for stainless steel is critical to achieving a sound joint - use a flux rated for stainless base metals. Ensure the work area is properly ventilated and that all system pressure is relieved before brazing any piping assembly. Allow the joint to cool completely before applying quench or flux removal procedures.
