The WEILER 96246 is a Type 27 coated flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on steel and stainless steel. The disc measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 threaded arbor hole for direct mounting on standard angle grinders. It uses zirconia alumina abrasive on a cloth backing at 60 grit, delivering coarse-grade stock removal suited to weld grinding and surface preparation work. Rated to 12,000 RPM, this disc is part of the WEILER Big Cat series and is built for the demands of fabrication and metalworking environments. It weighs 0.4 pounds. Metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
The WEILER 96246 is used on ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces where weld beads must be blended or base metal needs to be cleaned and prepared before coating or further fabrication. Its Type 27 flat-profile geometry keeps the disc face flush to the work surface, making it well-suited for flat stock, welded joints on structural steel, and sheet metal surface conditioning. It attaches via threaded arbor hole to angle grinders commonly used in shop and field environments.
Designed for use with standard 4-1/2 inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle. Suitable for grinding steel and stainless steel workpieces in fabrication, welding, and maintenance applications.
Installation is performed by threading the disc directly onto the grinder spindle — ensure the spindle is fully de-energized and locked out before mounting or removing the disc. Verify the grinder's rated free speed does not exceed the 12,000 RPM maximum before use. Always use the appropriate guard for the disc type and diameter as required by ANSI B7.1 and applicable workplace safety standards. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and do not use a disc that shows cracking, fraying, or other visible defects.
