The WATSON MCDANIEL wt4003sb-14-n is a thermostatic steam trap engineered for high-pressure steam systems requiring reliable condensate discharge and tight shutoff. Built with a 316L stainless steel body, it handles working pressures up to 300 PSIG and temperatures up to 422 degrees F. The trap features a hardened 416 stainless steel seat and disc that are lapped as a matched pair, delivering leak-tight shutoff. A fail-open orifice design (7/16 inch) protects the system if the trap fails, and the self-centering valve ensures consistent seating. Licensed HVAC and steam system technicians, stationary engineers, and industrial plumbers are the primary installers of this trap.
The wt4003sb-14-n is suited for industrial and commercial steam distribution systems where condensate must be removed efficiently without steam loss. The 1 inch NPT connection simplifies integration into existing piping. An integral strainer with blowdown valve is built in, eliminating the need for a separate strainer ahead of the trap. The trap is rated for use in systems with water hammer and superheat conditions, making it appropriate for demanding process steam and HVAC steam heating applications. It installs in any orientation and is freeze resistant when installed vertically with downward discharge.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for thermostatic steam traps with 1 inch NPT connections rated to 300 PSIG. Noted as a superior alternative to the N450 Series Nicholson thermostatic steam trap.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or steam systems technician in accordance with applicable mechanical codes. Shut down and depressurize the steam system completely and allow all components to cool before removing the existing trap. Use appropriate pipe thread sealant rated for steam service on all NPT connections. When freeze resistance is required, install vertically with the discharge pointing downward.
