Product Description

The WALTER-TITEX 6618400 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Ground with a 140-degree point angle and coated with TiAlN for heat and wear resistance, this bit delivers consistent hole quality at elevated cutting speeds. The whistle notch shank provides secure tool holding in standard chuck configurations. At 4.6457 inches overall length with a 2.1850-inch flute length, it is sized for the 5xD depth range typical in production and maintenance drilling. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die technician is the expected end user.

This drill bit is suited for blind hole drilling and stack drilling operations in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, superalloys, and titanium. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery to the cutting edge, making it effective in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with through-spindle coolant. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation across these material groups. It is a Series DC150 tool compliant with ANSI and ISO standards.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard and abrasive workpiece materials
  • TiAlN coating extends tool life at elevated cutting temperatures
  • 140-degree point angle reduces thrust force and improves self-centering on entry
  • Coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone
  • Whistle notch shank ensures positive engagement and prevents shank slip in the tool holder
  • Two-flute regular spiral geometry promotes reliable chip evacuation in blind hole and stack drilling applications

Compatibility

Designed for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Suitable for CNC machining centers and drill presses with through-spindle coolant capability. Shank diameter is 0.4720 inches, compatible with tool holders sized to that dimension.

Installation Notes

Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the machine spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris before seating the whistle notch shank. Verify through-spindle coolant pressure is appropriate for the application before starting the cut. Do not use carbide drills in hand-held drill applications; carbide is brittle and requires rigid machine tool setups to prevent fracture.
