The WALTER-TITEX 5153744 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. It measures 23/32 inches (0.7188 inches) in diameter with a 5-inch overall length and a parabolic flute geometry that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduced heat buildup. The 130-degree split point provides accurate self-centering and minimizes walking on entry. Constructed from cobalt vanadium high speed steel, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard HSS tooling, making it suitable for harder or more abrasive workpiece materials. It is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, hardened steels, non-ferrous metals, and other hard materials where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice for drill press, CNC, and lathe turret work. It belongs to the Walter Titex Series A1148, which is a universal-performance line built to DIN and ISO standards. Maximum drilling depth is 1.8 inches (45.00 mm), making it appropriate for moderate-depth bores in production or maintenance environments.
Designed as a Series A1148 screw machine length drill bit conforming to DIN, ISO, and BS standards. Compatible with any drill press, CNC machine, lathe turret, or hand drill equipped with a chuck that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank of 23/32 inches diameter. Suitable for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, hard materials, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys, to extend tool life and maintain surface finish. This bit does not support through-coolant and relies on external fluid application. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped before starting the cut to prevent bit walking or workpiece movement.
