The WALTER-TITEX 5153716 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from Cobalt Vanadium High Speed Steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit delivers durability and heat resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 0.242-inch diameter corresponds to Letter Size C and features a 130-degree split point for accurate self-centering entry without a center punch. A parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup and improving feed rates. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in metal fabrication shops and industrial service environments are the primary installers.
This bit is sized for screw machine length applications, where a shorter overall length of 2.75 inches provides rigidity and reduced deflection in close-clearance drilling setups. It is well suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, steel, hard materials, and non-ferrous metals. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks, and the 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports controlled drilling depths up to 0.800 inches. The parabolic flute design and web-thinned, tapered web construction make it effective across a universal range of workpiece conditions, from production runs to maintenance repair operations.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks. Suitable for drilling cast iron, hard materials, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel in machining, fabrication, and maintenance repair applications. Part of the WALTER-TITEX Series A1148 screw machine length drill bit line.
This drill bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand-held power drills equipped with a compatible chuck. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling to prevent movement and injury. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning the cut. This bit does not feature coolant-through capability, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied as needed when drilling hard or heat-sensitive materials.
