The WALTER-PROTOTYP 8416761 is a solid carbide roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to the MA320.A-4 series specification, this single-end mill features a 3/8 inch diameter, four flutes, and a TiAlN/THL coating that extends tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The chipbreaker geometry breaks chips into short segments, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup during roughing passes. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Machinists and tool room technicians working on CNC machining centers and manual mills select this tool for roughing operations where material removal rate and tool life are the primary priorities.
This end mill is suited for roughing cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous metals on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard ER collets and end mill holders without modification. The 1 inch length of cut provides sufficient reach for most shallow-to-mid-depth pocket and slot roughing operations. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute tool, consistent with standard spindle rotation on conventional CNC equipment. The non-extended-reach, non-variable-helix design keeps setup straightforward for standard roughing programs.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill in the MA320.A-4 series, compatible with standard 3/8 inch end mill holders and ER collet chucks used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool room technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or removing the tool from any holder. Ensure the collet or end mill holder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to maintain runout specification. Verify programmed feeds, speeds, and depth of cut are appropriate for the workpiece material before initiating a roughing pass.
