The WALTER-PROTOTYP 8120201 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal UNF threads with high precision and repeatability. Part of the TC630 series, it features a straight-cylindrical shank and a right-hand flute direction, making it suitable for CNC machining centers running conventional thread milling cycles. The 4-flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during helical interpolation. An AlTiN coating provides heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Overall length is 2.244 inches. At 0.57 pounds, the tool balances rigidity with reduced spindle load.
This thread mill is suited for precision machining applications in manufacturing, tooling, and production environments where UNF internal threads are required. Helical flute thread mills are commonly used on CNC machining centers when thread milling is preferred over tapping - particularly in hard materials, blind holes, or situations where a single tool must produce multiple thread sizes through programmatic adjustment. The TC630 series is engineered for shops requiring consistent thread quality across high-volume or close-tolerance work.
Designed for cutting internal UNF threads on CNC machining centers using helical interpolation. Compatible with standard straight-bore collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC programmer familiar with thread milling cycles. Secure the tool in a properly sized collet chuck or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Spindle speed and feed rate must be programmed per the TC630 series guidelines for the workpiece material - do not use tapping cycles with this tool. Ensure the CNC control is configured for helical interpolation before initiating the thread milling operation.
