The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7629583 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting M4 metric internal threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from High Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) with a TiN coating, it delivers increased wear resistance and longer tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. The tap features a 45-degree helix angle, which helps evacuate chips upward out of the hole - a critical performance factor when tapping blind holes. With a semi-bottoming chamfer and a 3-flute configuration, it is suited for applications requiring threads close to the bottom of a drilled hole. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
This tap is intended for M4 metric threaded hole production in machining operations across job shops, production environments, and maintenance facilities. The 6H class of fit specifies a standard tolerance appropriate for general-purpose metric fastener engagement. The semi-bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard chamfer would permit. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap, making it suited for conventional tapping with external coolant or cutting fluid application. It runs right-hand thread direction with right-hand flute orientation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tap within the WALTER-PROTOTYP TC115 series for M4 metric threading operations requiring a 6H class of fit and semi-bottoming chamfer geometry.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tapping head, CNC machine, or hand tap wrench with appropriate torque control. Always pre-drill the correct tap drill diameter for M4 threads before tapping and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Replace the tap if thread quality degrades or if the tap shows signs of chipping, wear, or breakage before completing a thread.
