The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7427633 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 2-56 UNC internal threads in a semi-bottoming (modified bottoming, 2-3 chamfered threads) configuration. Built from High-Speed Steel-E with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this right-hand tap generates threads through material displacement rather than cutting, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. It measures 1.7717 inches overall length with a 0.2756-inch thread length and a 0.1102-inch shank diameter. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping machines for production and repair threading operations.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications across a wide range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys. The TC410 Advance series designation indicates a general-purpose forming tap optimized for small-diameter unified threads in tight-tolerance work. With a tapping depth of 0.4724 inches and a flute-by-diameter ratio of 3.5xD, it is well-matched to high-volume production environments where thread quality and tool life are priorities. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this configuration.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for 2-56 UNC thread forming applications in blind and through-hole configurations across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and superalloy workpieces, consistent with material application codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Thread forming taps must be used with an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to prevent galling, especially in stainless steel and superalloys. Ensure the tap holder provides proper float to compensate for pitch synchronization in rigid tapping setups. Power down and secure the workpiece before manual tap changes. Follow shop-specific speeds and feeds for the 2-56 diameter class, as overfeeding a forming tap at this diameter can cause breakage.
