The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7427626 is a thread forming tap in the TC410 Advance series, designed to produce M5x0.8 metric internal threads without cutting chips. Operating on a cold-forming principle, it displaces material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger thread geometry and longer tool life compared to cut taps. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, the tap delivers improved wear resistance and lubricity. It carries a 6HX class of fit and features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 70 millimeters with a 13 millimeter thread length.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading applications in a production or job-shop environment. The material application range covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, corresponding to material application codes P, M, K, N, and S. The right-hand thread direction and 6HX tolerance class make it a direct fit for standard metric fastener applications. Tapping depth reaches 25 millimeters, and the 5 oil grooves support lubricant delivery along the shank during operation. Installation is typically performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a tapping head, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench.
Designed for M5x0.8 metric blind hole and through-hole threading applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys. Part of the WALTER-PROTOTYP TC410 Advance series.
Thread forming taps require a formed-hole diameter sized for the specific material and pitch - consult the manufacturer forming drill chart before drilling the pilot hole, as the correct pre-drill size differs from standard cut-tap recommendations. Always apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; insufficient lubrication is the leading cause of premature wear with forming taps. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before loading or removing the tap. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and workholding standards when securing the workpiece.
