The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7427498 is a thread forming tap designed for producing M3x0.5 metric internal threads in both blind hole and through-hole applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during chipless thread forming. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. At 56 millimeters overall length with a 9 millimeter thread length and 3.50 millimeter shank diameter, this tap fits standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and conventional tapping machines. It carries a 6HX class of fit for metric tolerance compliance.
This tap is suited for machining operations in manufacturing, toolroom, and production environments where chipless thread forming is preferred over cutting taps. Thread forming is commonly chosen when working with ductile materials such as low-carbon steel, aluminum, brass, and similar non-ferrous metals. The TC410 Advance series is engineered for both blind hole and through-hole threading in these material groups. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and precision toolroom technicians are the primary users. The 4 oil grooves support lubrication delivery along the shank during the forming cycle, reducing torque and heat buildup.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole threading in ductile materials corresponding to material application codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous metals), and S (heat-resistant alloys) per the TC410 Advance series classification. No specific machine or holder model compatibility was provided in the product data.
Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with rigid tapping cycles and proper torque parameters for the workpiece material. Always ensure the spindle and workpiece are secured before engaging the tap, and use the appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to maintain lubrication through the oil grooves. Verify that the tapping depth does not exceed the rated 18 millimeter tapping depth for this tool. Consult machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards before operation.
