The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7427359 is a metric thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting chips. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during the forming process. The tap carries a 6HX class of fit for metric threads and features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads, making it effective in both blind and through-hole applications. With an overall length of 3.5433 inches (90 mm) and a tapping depth of 1.378 inches (35 mm), this tap suits precision threading work in metalworking environments.
The 7427359 is used for threading M8x1.25 holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys. It is suited to both blind-hole and through-hole threading operations in industrial machining, tool rooms, and maintenance environments. The TC420 Supreme series is engineered for demanding material applications where chip-free thread forming is preferred over cutting taps to achieve stronger thread forms.
Designed for M8x1.25 metric thread forming in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and superalloys (S) per material application codes. Suitable for blind-hole and through-hole threading operations.
Thread forming taps require a proper forming tap drill size, which differs from cutting tap drill sizes - consult a metric forming tap drill chart before use. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should set appropriate spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material. Apply cutting or forming oil rated for the material being tapped; the coolant-through capability allows flood or through-spindle coolant delivery. Power down the machine and secure the workpiece firmly before loading the tap into the holder.
