The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7254996 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal in steel and hard material applications. Built on the MC388 series platform, it features a 5 mm cutting diameter, a 1 mm corner radius, and a TiAlSiN PVD coating that extends tool life in high-heat, high-speed cutting environments. With three right-hand helical flutes and a high helix style, it balances chip evacuation with surface finish across both roughing and finishing passes. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility in toolpath strategy. This tool is intended for use with a standard toolholder and fits shops running precision CNC milling operations.
The 7254996 is suited for milling steel and hard materials in production and job-shop environments. Its extended-reach geometry, with a 21 mm reach length, provides clearance in deep-pocket and wall-clearance scenarios where a standard-length tool would make contact with the workpiece or fixture. The coarse pitch and right-hand cutting direction are optimized for conventional and climb milling on CNC machining centers. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance ensures a secure, repeatable grip in collet-style and hydraulic toolholders.
Designed for use with standard collet, hydraulic, or shrink-fit toolholders accepting a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel and hard materials (ISO material codes P and H).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tools. Verify shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production run. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for speed, feed, and depth of cut when machining hard materials.
