The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7254992 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding metal removal in steel and hard material applications. It features a 3 mm cutting diameter, a 0.5 mm corner radius, and a TiAlSiN PVD coating that extends tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The three-flute, right-hand helical geometry supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool, reducing changeover time. With a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank and a 57 mm overall length, the 7254992 mounts directly in standard toolholders. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in job shop, production, or toolroom environments.
This end mill is suited for milling steel and hard materials in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, adding flexibility for pocketing and slotting operations. The extended reach design, with a 21 mm reach length, provides clearance in deeper cavities. The coarse pitch and high-helix flute configuration support aggressive chip evacuation in ferrous and hardened workpieces. The Series MC388 designation identifies it within the WALTER-PROTOTYP product family for solid carbide end mills.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Shank diameter tolerance is h6 and mill diameter tolerance is h9. Primary workpiece materials are steel and hard materials (ISO material codes P and H).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Confirm toolholder bore size matches the 6 mm shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the toolholder to prevent pull-out under cutting loads. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or coating wear at regular intervals, as hard material applications accelerate edge wear.
