The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6579469 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding material removal in ferrous and exotic alloy applications. It features a 5 mm (0.197 inch) cutting diameter, a 0.50 mm (0.02 inch) corner radius, and 3 flutes with a high-helix, right-hand spiral geometry. The cutting edge is coated with TiAlN via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy and titanium workpieces. Designed as a single-end, centercutting tool, it handles both roughing and finishing operations without a tool change. This is a long-reach configuration intended for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders.
The 6579469 is suited for CNC milling operations on machining centers in job shop, production, and precision manufacturing environments. Its extended reach, with a 21 mm (0.63 inch) reach length and 4.80 mm neck diameter, allows access to deeper pockets and stepped features without interference. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium. Secondary applications cover hard materials and additional cast iron and stainless steel conditions. The coarse pitch and high-helix geometry support efficient chip evacuation during aggressive cuts. This tool is part of the Walter MC326 series.
Designed for use with straight-cylindrical toolholders. Shank diameter is 6 mm with h5 tolerance. Part of the Walter MC326 series. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully de-energized and at rest before inserting or removing the tool. Verify the shank is seated to the correct gauge length in the toolholder and that clamping torque matches toolholder manufacturer specifications. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material category; consult the Walter MC326 series cutting data tables for feed and speed guidance.
