The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6579284 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. It runs a 5/8 inch diameter with a 1/8 inch corner radius and a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, producing a blended edge that resists chipping in interrupted cuts and hard materials. The PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. At 3-1/2 inches overall length with a 5/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank, this single-end mill fits standard toolholders and is suited for machining centers running right-hand cutting direction. The high helix geometry and normal pitch support both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool.
This end mill is built for CNC machining applications where corner strength and surface finish both matter. It is well matched to milling steel alloys, stainless grades, cast iron, and superalloy or titanium workpieces in production and job shop environments. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its use in slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations. The extended reach geometry with a 1.594 inch reach length accommodates deeper features without requiring a specialty long-reach tool. Series MC326 positions this cutter for high-performance finishing and semi-roughing on machining centers where tool life in abrasive materials is a priority.
Designed for use with standard cylindrical-bore toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank, including collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders. Shank diameter tolerance is h5; mill diameter tolerance is h9. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. Series MC326.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is properly seated to the specified gauge length before tightening the toolholder. Verify runout at the cutting diameter with a dial indicator before production use, as excess runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tools. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for the shank diameter.
