The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6579177 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to a 1/2 inch diameter with a 0.1200 inch corner radius, this tool delivers a controlled blend radius that reduces stress concentrations in machined pockets and slots. It features four flutes, a 50-degree high helix angle, and a TiAlN PVD coating that provides heat resistance and extended tool life when cutting ferrous and hard materials. The single-end, centercutting design allows direct plunge entry. This tool is specified for use in CNC machining centers by machinists and tooling engineers working in production environments.
The 6579177 is suited for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The extended reach configuration, with a 1.7170 inch reach length, makes it effective in pockets and cavities where standard-reach tools cannot maintain clearance. The short flute length of 1 inch provides rigidity during aggressive cuts while the high helix promotes efficient chip evacuation. It is intended for use with standard straight-bore toolholders and is compatible with coolant-flood setups, though it does not feature through-spindle coolant. This is a production-grade end mill appropriate for job shops and OEM machining operations running ISO material groups P, M, K, and S.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore cylindrical toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, S). Secondary workpiece materials include cast iron, hard materials, and stainless steel. Part of the Walter-Prototyp MC326 series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician on a CNC machining center. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool change position is confirmed before seating or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Use an appropriate collet or shrink-fit holder that accommodates a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h5 tolerance. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a four-flute carbide tool at this diameter.
