The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6244456 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in metalworking and machining applications. Built from M35 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles demanding materials including steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). The tap features a left-hand flute direction with a 45-degree helix angle, which efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during the cutting stroke. Thread size is M10x1.50 metric with a 6H class of fit, a 15 mm thread length, and a 100 mm overall length. It carries a bright/uncoated finish. This is a left-hand thread tap intended for producing left-hand threaded holes.
The 6244456 is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where blind hole tapping in steel, aluminum, cast steel, non-ferrous metal, plastic, fiber-reinforced plastic, and graphite workpieces is required. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole compared to a standard plug chamfer. The 45-degree helix angle and fast flute style make this tap well matched for short-chipping and long-chipping materials commonly encountered in precision part manufacturing and repair operations. It belongs to WALTER-PROTOTYP Series P205198.
Designed for blind hole threading in steel, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and CFRP materials (Primary Workpiece Material Codes P, N, C). Part of WALTER-PROTOTYP Series P205198. Verify machine spindle direction and tap holder for left-hand thread production before installation.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals operating CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, or manual tapping machines set for left-hand rotation. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Confirm the tapping depth and ensure the holder is rated for the required torque range for M10 tapping in the target workpiece material. Do not use this tap to produce right-hand threads; the left-hand flute and thread geometry are specific to left-hand hole production.
