The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6244455 is a spiral flute tap designed for left-hand, blind-hole threading in M8 x 1.25 metric applications. Built from M35 cobalt steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread formation in demanding materials including steel, cast steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and fiber reinforced plastics. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, while the 45-degree fast-flute helix angle efficiently evacuates chips back up and out of the bore. With a 6H class of fit, it produces threads to standard metric tolerance. Overall length is 3.5433 inches with a 0.4724-inch thread length.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where left-hand threads are required in blind holes. Typical applications include fixturing, aerospace components, and assemblies where reverse-threaded fasteners prevent loosening under rotational loads. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers and manual tapping equipment. The Series P205198 designation identifies it within the WALTER-PROTOTYP tap line. Material applications include aluminum, cast steel, fiber reinforced plastic, graphite, non-ferrous metal, plastic, and steel.
Designed for blind-hole threading in aluminum, cast steel, fiber reinforced plastic, graphite, non-ferrous metal, plastic, and steel. Compatible with standard M8 tap holders and tapping chucks accepting a 0.3150-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists familiar with left-hand tooling and blind-hole tapping procedures. Verify that the machine spindle rotation and tap holder are set for left-hand operation before starting. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Never force a tap against an undersized pilot hole - confirm proper drill size for M8 x 1.25 threads before tapping.
