The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6149496 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a 3/4-20 UNEF thread form. Built from HSS-E (M35 grade high-speed steel with cobalt), this tap handles steel, non-ferrous metals, and a range of other materials. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in suited for through-hole applications. With 4 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, the spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap into the hole rather than backing them out, reducing clogging and improving threading efficiency. Overall length is 4.33 inches with a thread length of 0.94 inches.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and production environments where consistent thread quality is required. The 3/4-20 UNEF pitch is a fine-thread designation used in precision mechanical assemblies, instrumentation, and aerospace-adjacent applications where a finer thread engagement is specified over standard UNC or coarse-series alternatives. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers, typically using this tap in CNC machines, drill presses, or tapping heads. Coolant-through capability is not included on this tap.
Designed for through-hole threading of steel, non-ferrous metals, and other materials where a 3/4-20 UNEF, 2B class of fit thread is specified. Part of the WALTER-PROTOTYP Series P233602.
This tap is installed by a machinist using a tapping head, CNC spindle, or manual tap wrench rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the tap. Cutting fluid or appropriate lubricant should be applied during the tapping operation to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and do not force a worn tap.
