The WALTER-PROTOTYP 5934680 is a thread forming tap designed for 8-32 UNC threading in blind hole and through-hole applications. Part of the Protodyn S Plus series (AP2261705), it is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E (cobalt-grade HSS) and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. The tap produces a 2B class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer, making it well suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15.00 mm). Licensed machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary installers.
This tap is intended for use in precision metalworking environments where consistent 8-32 UNC thread forming is required. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2-3 chamfered threads, allows threading to near-bottom depth in blind holes without a separate bottoming operation. Material application codes P, M, N, and S indicate suitability across carbon steels, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant alloys. The tap does not require coolant-through capability for standard applications but benefits from cutting oil or appropriate threading fluid to maintain surface finish and tool longevity.
Designed as an OEM-style thread forming tap for 8-32 UNC blind hole and through-hole threading applications across steel, stainless, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloy workpieces, per material application codes P, M, N, and S.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with threading operations and applicable shop safety standards. Power down and secure all rotating equipment before changing or inspecting taps. Apply an appropriate threading fluid or cutting oil to the tap and workpiece before use to protect the coating and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses; do not use a damaged tap, as it may produce out-of-tolerance threads or break in the workpiece.
