The WALTER-PROTOTYP 5934579 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal 6-32 UNC threads in blind and through-hole applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (cobalt-grade HSS) and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tap delivers extended tool life in a wide range of workpiece materials. It carries a 2B class of fit and a modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With a 0.5118-inch thread length, a 2.0-inch overall length, and a 0.1410-inch shank diameter, it fits standard tap holders for small-diameter work. This tap belongs to the Protodyn S Plus series, product series AP2261705.
This tap is intended for use in metalworking environments where chip-free thread forming is required. It is applied in blind-hole and through-hole threading operations across material groups P (carbon and alloy steel), M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous metals), and S (heat-resistant superalloys). Typical installations include precision machining shops, production lines, and MRO operations where consistent 6-32 UNC thread quality is critical. No coolant-through feature is present, so standard flood or tap-specific cutting fluid application at the spindle is the appropriate approach.
Designed for use in blind-hole and through-hole threading of 6-32 UNC threads in materials coded P, M, N, and S per the input data. Fits standard tap holders accepting a 0.1410-inch shank diameter with a 0.1100-inch square drive. Part of the Protodyn S Plus series AP2261705.
Thread forming taps are installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual tap handles with appropriate torque control. Power down all equipment and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Thread forming requires adequate lubrication at the cutting zone; apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material group. Do not use this tap as a cutting tap - it forms threads by material displacement and is not designed to remove chips.
