The WALTER-PROTOTYP 5076106 is a straight-flute machine tap designed for cutting M1x0.25 metric internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. Built from M35 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable thread formation in small-diameter applications where tool rigidity and material compatibility are critical. The 3-flute straight-flute geometry and modified bottoming chamfer allow threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 40 millimeters, thread length is 5 millimeters, and shank diameter is 2.50 millimeters. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this tap in precision machining environments.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining operations requiring fine metric threads at M1 pitch. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for shallow blind-hole threading where a standard taper or plug chamfer would not reach full thread depth. It is used on CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and drill press setups with appropriate tapping attachments. Compatible material applications include aluminum, non-ferrous metals, plastics, fiber reinforced plastics, graphite, gray cast iron, malleable cast iron, spheroidal cast iron, and vermicular cast iron.
Designed for use in blind-hole and through-hole threading applications across aluminum, non-ferrous metals, plastics, fiber reinforced plastics, graphite, gray cast iron, malleable cast iron, spheroidal cast iron, and vermicular cast iron workpieces requiring M1x0.25 metric threads at 6H tolerance class. Part of WALTER-PROTOTYP Series 20311.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using a tapping chuck, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Always secure the workpiece fully and confirm spindle alignment before engaging the tap to prevent breakage at this small diameter. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. At M1 diameter, tap breakage risk is elevated; use low torque settings and confirm proper tap alignment before cycling.
