The WALTER 8115979 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Designated VNMG432-MP5 WPP20G, it features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 35-degree diamond (V) insert shape delivers a sharp, acute cutting geometry suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. With four cutting edges and a negative rake angle, this insert delivers consistent performance and extended tool life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is optimized for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The MP5 chip breaker geometry controls chip formation across a range of cutting conditions, making it suitable for both roughing transitions and fine finishing. Material grades P20 and K30 identify the primary application range: general-purpose steel machining (ISO P) and cast iron machining (ISO K). It is appropriate for medium-to-high cutting speeds in production environments where consistent surface finish and edge stability are required.
Designed for use in VNMG-style insert toolholders accepting a 432 insert size with clamp or pin retention. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K), with material grades P20 and K30. Multi-use application includes turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool and die professionals. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can chip the insert or damage the seating pocket.
