The WALTER 8115644 is a CNMG432-MP3 WPP20G grade indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry suited to moderate to heavy material removal. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.031 inch corner radius, and an insert length of 0.508 inches, it is sized for standard CNMG toolholders. The negative rake angle and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style improve edge strength during interrupted or continuous cuts. Licensed CNC machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers of this insert in production turning centers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of part geometries. Its primary workpiece material target is steel (ISO material code P, grade P20), with secondary application in cast iron (ISO material code K, grade K30). The MP3 chip breaker geometry is configured for medium-range cutting parameters on these materials. The insert carries both ANSI and ISO standards compliance, with an ISO designation of CNMG120408-MP3 WPP20G and an industry standard number of CNMG432-MP3 WPP20G, making it straightforward to cross-reference in standard tooling catalogs.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert holding methods. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations targeting steel (P20) and cast iron (K30) workpiece materials. Verify toolholder seat and clamp configuration against CNMG432 insert geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not substitute clamping components. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or damage before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert can fracture carbide during operation.
