The WALTER 7499358 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT series, designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining applications. It carries the ISO code DCGT11T302-FM2 WSM01 and features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a 0.008 inch (1/128 inch) corner radius. The insert is uncoated at the substrate level but finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating under the WSM01 proprietary grade designation. The FM2 chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle of 18 degrees promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. With 2 cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent performance in finish and semi-finish turning operations.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), making it well suited for aerospace, medical, and process-industry components where surface integrity and tool life are critical. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials (ISO codes P, N, and H). It supports multiple operations including turning, facing, boring, and back turning, giving machinists flexibility on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is held by screw clamp method and is neutral-handed, fitting standard DCGT-compatible toolholders.
Designed for use in screw-clamp DCGT-series toolholders accepting inserts with a 0.375 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with CNC lathes and turning centers running stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid insert movement or seat damage - refer to the toolholder manufacturer's specification for the correct screw torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
