The WALTER 7376601 is a DNMG431-MM5 series solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning applications. It carries a three-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN under the proprietary WMP20S designation, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style with a 0.016 inch corner radius. Four cutting edges are available per insert, making it a cost-effective choice for production environments where tool changes need to be minimized. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working on steel and stainless steel components are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M), with secondary suitability for super-alloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Material grades P25, M20, and S20 apply. The MM5 chip breaker geometry supports a range of operations including turning, facing, boring, and back turning, making it versatile across roughing and semi-finishing passes. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO designation of DNMG150404-MM5 WMP20S.
Designed for use in DNMG-series toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thickness, and clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO DNMG150404 geometry standards. Suitable for CNC turning centers and manual lathes configured for negative-rake DNMG inserts.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench per toolholder manufacturer specifications when tightening the clamp screw or pin. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and avoid premature edge failure.
