The WALTER 7376524 is a CNMG431-MM5 WMP20S solid carbide turning insert designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a triple-layer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN - applied through a chemical vapor deposition process that delivers superior wear resistance and thermal stability. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suitable for continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1875 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches, this insert is built for precision finishing and semi-finishing operations across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications in steel and stainless steel as its primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability in super-alloys and titanium. The MM5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style are optimized for ISO material groups P and M, with S20 capability for demanding alloy applications. It carries a neutral hand designation, making it suitable for standard right-hand toolholders. The insert is held by clamp or pin methods and conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO code reference is CNMG120404-MM5 WMP20S.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces. Material grade ratings are M20, P25, and S20.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specification when tightening the clamp screw - do not over-tighten. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and runout control.
