The WALTER 7347318 is a solid carbide octagon milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation ODMT0504ZZN-D57 in grade WKP35G. Engineered for steel and cast iron machining, this single-sided insert features a CVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating for thermal resistance and wear life at elevated cutting speeds. The neutral-hand geometry delivers a positive rake angle of 10 degrees with a honed cutting edge style, reducing cutting forces and promoting a clean finish. With 8 usable cutting edges and a D57 chip breaker, the insert offers strong economics per edge in high-production milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling of steel and cast iron in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The WKP35G grade aligns with material grades P35 and K35, making it appropriate for a broad range of ferrous workpiece materials encountered in job shop and production environments. It is compatible with the M5004 cutter series and seats via screw-clamping into indexable milling toolholders designed for the ODMT insert style and size code 0504. The 135-degree included angle of the octagon shape provides good edge strength for interrupted cuts.
Designed for use with the M5004 cutter series and toolholders accepting the ODMT insert style in size code 0504. Primary workpiece material compatibility covers steel (P) and cast iron (K) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure with the clamping screw using the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, damage, or wear before seating a new edge.
