The WALTER 7251898 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432-MM5 WSM10S configuration, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. The insert carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN and Al2O3, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous cuts. With an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315 inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for negative-rake, neutral-hand operation. The MM5 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feed rates and depths of cut up to 0.508 inches. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments install and index this insert during scheduled tooling changes.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, with steel as a secondary material. The WSM10S grade and PVD coating combination is matched to ISO material groups M and S, with material grades M1 and S10, making it appropriate for demanding aerospace, medical, and energy sector components. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the equivalent ISO designation CNMG120408-MM5 WSM10S. The insert seats in toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods, compatible with CNMG-series pockets in standard negative-rake toolholder systems.
Designed for use in CNMG-series negative-rake toolholders that accept clamp and pin clamping methods. Compatible with ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and S (superalloys and titanium), and secondarily with group P (steel). Insert size code 432 fits standard CNMG432 pocket toolholders per ANSI and ISO specifications.
Indexable insert installation and replacement is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Clamp and pin fasteners should be tightened to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edge and corner radius condition at each tool change interval before returning the tool to service.
