The WALTER 7109173 is a right-hand indexable grooving toolholder engineered for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying catalog designation G3011.16R-MX22-2-P and belonging to the G3011-12-20-P-INCH series, this toolholder accepts MX22-2E inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method. It delivers a maximum depth of cut of 6 mm (0.236 inches) with a minimum groove width starting at 0.80 mm. Through-coolant capability directs cutting fluid directly to the cutting zone, supporting tool life and chip evacuation when machining challenging materials including stainless steel, steel, superalloys, titanium, and titanium alloys.
This toolholder is designed for use on turning centers and CNC lathes in both production and job-shop environments. Its 1-inch square shank height and 4.88-inch shank length suit standard OD turning toolposts commonly found in medium-class turning machines. The multi-use tool designation means a single holder body can serve grooving, parting, and related operations depending on the insert selected. Machinists and CNC setup technicians working with difficult-to-machine materials will find the through-coolant feature particularly useful for managing heat and chip control at the cutting edge.
Designed to accept MX22-2E inserts. Insert seat size is MX22. Part of the G3011-12-20-P-INCH series. Suitable for stainless steel, steel, superalloy, titanium, and titanium alloy workpiece materials per material codes M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before mounting or changing toolholders. Secure the toolholder in the turret or toolpost to the machine manufacturer's specified clamping requirements, verifying proper shank engagement and alignment before resuming operation. Follow the insert manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw when seating MX22-2E inserts.
