The WALTER 7091908 is a DNMG-style carbide turning insert with ISO designation DNMG150404-FM5 WSM10S, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al, paired with the FM5 chip breaker geometry for controlled chip formation. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.4 mm corner radius, and a negative rake angle with chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges, this insert suits high-productivity turning applications where tool life and edge consistency in difficult materials are priorities for machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S, with secondary suitability for steel (ISO code P). It is applicable across turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. The FM5 chip breaker is suited for medium cutting conditions in these material groups. The DNMG150404-FM5 WSM10S is also identified by industry standard number DNMG431-FM5 WSM10S and meets both ANSI and ISO insert standards, making it straightforward to cross-reference against existing tooling programs.
Designed for DNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, clamp or pin holding, and N clearance with M tolerance. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against the DNMG150404 insert dimensions before installation. ISO material grades M1, S10, and P10 define the intended workpiece material range.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification; do not exceed the recommended clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert to ensure accurate seating and repeatable tool geometry.
