The WALTER 7077847 is a solid carbide boring insert in the CCMT format, designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on demanding materials. This insert carries the WSM20S manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al, delivering high heat resistance and edge durability at elevated cutting speeds. The diamond-shaped, 80-degree included angle geometry provides strong edge support, while the E47 chipbreaker promotes reliable chip evacuation in finishing and semi-finishing passes. With a 0.2 mm corner radius and a positive rake design, this insert is built for clean, accurate cuts in tight bore tolerances.
This insert is intended for boring and internal turning of stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, making it well suited to aerospace, medical, and high-performance industrial machining applications. Steel is listed as a secondary workpiece material. It is appropriate for use in CNC turning centers and boring bars equipped for CCMT-style inserts. The neutral cutting direction allows flexible deployment in standard toolholding configurations. Machinists and tooling specialists working with ISO and ANSI grade toolholders will find this insert compliant with both standards.
Designed for use in CCMT-style boring bars and internal turning toolholders conforming to ANSI code CCMT3(2.5)0.5-E47 and ISO code CCMT09T302-E47. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is steel.
Installation is performed by machining technicians and toolroom professionals using standard torx or hex insert clamping hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent insert movement during cutting. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
