The WALTER 6955679 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. Featuring a PVD-applied TiAlN coating under the proprietary WNN10 grade designation, this insert delivers heat resistance and edge integrity suited for non-ferrous, steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The 80-degree trigon (W) shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. Key cutting geometry includes a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, a positive rake angle of 18 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. Mounting is accomplished via screw-hold method in WCGT-compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of workpiece materials. Its primary designation targets non-ferrous metals, with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel. The FN2 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation at moderate feed rates. ISO code WCGT06T308-FN2 WNN10 applies for cross-reference with international tooling standards. This insert suits production machining environments in both job shops and high-volume manufacturing where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in WCGT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO equivalent code is WCGT06T308-FN2 WNN10. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals (material code N), steel (code P), and stainless steel (code M). Material grades N10, P01, and M01 apply.
Installation of indexable turning inserts is performed by machining technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.257 inches as specified for this insert geometry.
