The WALTER 6955678 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WCGT series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) geometry with a positive rake angle of 18 degrees and a TiAlN PVD coating applied under the WNN10 grade designation. The insert carries a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.016-inch corner radius, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.257 inches. The FN2 chipbreaker geometry and honed cutting edge make it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on non-ferrous metals. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-clamped toolholders.
This insert is optimized for primary use on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum and copper alloys, and is rated as a secondary option for steel and stainless steel workpiece materials under ISO material codes P and M. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand toolholder configurations. Multi-use application includes turning, facing, and boring operations. The WCGT insert style with clearance code C and tolerance code G is sized to the 32.51 insert size code, corresponding to ISO designation WCGT06T304-FN2 WNN10 and industry standard number WCGT3(2.5)1-FN2 WNN10.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for screw-clamped WCGT-series turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO designation WCGT06T304-FN2 WNN10 may be used for cross-reference with compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque screwdriver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide body - do not use impact tools. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
