The WALTER 6876744 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG080408-NMS WSM01 configuration, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the WSM01 proprietary grade, it features a multilayer TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrN PVD coating that supports high-speed cutting in demanding materials. The trigon (W) insert shape provides an 80-degree included angle and a negative rake geometry with a clearance code of N and tolerance code of M. The NMS chip breaker with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style delivers controlled chip flow and edge stability across turning, facing, and boring operations. Six usable cutting edges maximize tool economy per insert.
This insert is optimized primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material groups M and S), with secondary capability in steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials (ISO groups P, N, and H). Applicable material grades include M10, S10, P10, N10, and H20. It is suited for external turning, facing, and boring on production lathes in both job-shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods and conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. The industry-standard equivalent designation is WNMG432-NMS WSM01.
Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Compatible with ISO and ANSI-standard WNMG insert seats. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary materials include steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret indexed to a safe position before replacing inserts. Use a torx or hex key appropriate to the toolholder clamp screw and ensure the insert seats flush with no debris under the pocket before tightening. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before each use; never run a chipped or cracked insert.
