Product Description

The WALTER 6839090 is a CCMT-style indexable carbide turning insert designed for metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ISO designation CCMT060204-RM4 WSM10S, it features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The multilayer PVD coating stack - TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al - delivers thermal resistance and edge durability suited to demanding cuts. With a corner radius of 0.4 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 6.45 mm, this insert handles finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is installed by a licensed machinist or CNC setup technician.

This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys including titanium, with secondary suitability for carbon and alloy steel. The RM4 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in these tough materials. Applicable operations include turning, facing, and boring. The screw-clamped holding method and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with standard CCMT toolholders in both imperial and metric configurations. It conforms to ANSI and ISO indexable insert standards.

Key Features

  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) with 2 cutting edges per insert
  • Multilayer PVD coating: TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al for heat and wear resistance
  • RM4 chip breaker geometry for controlled chip formation in stainless steel and superalloys
  • Positive rake angle (12 degrees) reduces cutting forces on difficult-to-machine materials
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for edge stability and longer tool life
  • Multi-use application: turning, facing, and boring from a single insert style

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard CCMT screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating specifications. Primarily suited for machining stainless steel and superalloys including titanium (ISO material groups M and S); secondary application is carbon and alloy steel (ISO material group P). Material grades M1, S10, and P10 apply.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new cutting edge.
