The WALTER 6529720 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the GX24 series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. It carries a CVD-applied Al2O3 and TiN coating stack over a WKP23S carbide grade substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal protection during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 6 mm in cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 24 mm, and features a positive rake geometry with a CE4 chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation. It uses a self-grip holding method and is a double-end insert, maximizing tool life per piece. Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert in compatible GX24 toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving and turning applications on steel and cast iron workpieces, covering primary material code P and secondary material code K. It fits production turning operations where consistent groove geometry, controlled chip flow, and extended tool life are required. The neutral hand orientation and 90-degree lead angle make it adaptable across a range of grooving scenarios, including external and face grooving on medium to large diameter workpieces. The CE4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for chip control at moderate to higher feed rates on ferrous materials.
Designed for use in GX24 series toolholders accepting size 4 inserts with the self-grip holding method. ANSI and ISO code for this insert is GX24-4E600N03-CE4 WKP23S. Confirm toolholder compatibility against the GX24 system specifications before installation.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and verify the self-grip retention is fully engaged before resuming cuts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines; do not use damaged or contaminated pockets, as improper seating can cause insert fracture or dimensional errors.
