The WALTER 6529470 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Built to GX24 series specifications, this insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles. The WKP13S grade substrate is finished with a CVD-applied Al2O3 and TiN coating that improves wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The double-ended UD4 chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action and efficient chip evacuation, reducing built-up edge in ferrous materials.
This insert is intended for use on cast iron and steel workpieces, covering ISO material groups K and P. The GX24 self-grip holding system allows secure seating in compatible GX24 toolholders without additional clamping hardware, making indexing fast and repeatable. The neutral hand orientation suits both left- and right-hand grooving setups. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments will find this insert effective for parting-adjacent grooving, undercut profiles, and snap-ring groove applications where dimensional consistency is critical. The ANSI and ISO codes are GX24-2E300N03-UD4 WKP13S.
Designed for use with GX24 series self-grip grooving toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO group K) and steel (ISO group P). ANSI and ISO designation: GX24-2E300N03-UD4 WKP13S.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Seat the insert fully into the GX24 self-grip pocket and verify positive engagement before resuming cutting. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque and coolant recommendations and observe applicable shop safety protocols during setup.
