The WALTER 6463577 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT32.51-FM4 geometry, finished with a three-layer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN under the proprietary WMP20S Tiger-tec Silver designation. The 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a honed cutting edge delivers controlled chip formation across turning, facing, and boring operations. A 1/64-inch corner radius and the FM4 chip breaker geometry keep cutting forces manageable during medium-duty passes on steel and stainless steel. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M) with secondary capability on super-alloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The FM4 chip breaker geometry suits finishing to light roughing applications. The screw-clamping hold method seats the insert securely in compatible CCMT-style toolholders, making it well suited for production turning environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are priorities.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO equivalent part number is CCMT09T304-FM4 WMP20S. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CCMT insert geometry.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid insert or seat damage - consult the toolholder documentation for the applicable value. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert. Replace the insert when wear land or edge condition exceeds the tolerance acceptable for the workpiece finish requirement.
