The WALTER 6463536 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN. It carries the WMP20S grade designation and belongs to the Tiger-tec Silver series, engineered for high-performance turning of steel and stainless steel. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a positive rake geometry, and the FM4 chipbreaker, which promotes reliable chip control and reduces cutting forces in finish-to-medium turning applications. With a 0.375-inch inscribed circle and a 0.008-inch corner radius, it is suited for precision external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations where consistent chip control and surface finish are priorities. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M), with secondary suitability for super-alloys and titanium (ISO S). The FM4 chipbreaker geometry handles light-to-medium depths of cut, making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on CNC turning centers in both job-shop and production environments. The ISO designation for this insert is CCMT09T302-FM4 WMP20S.
Compatible with CCMT insert pockets conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CCMT09T3 (metric) or CCMT3(2.5)0.5 (inch) toolholders. Suitable for screw-clamp style turning toolholders and boring bars accepting CCMT geometry inserts with a 0.173-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder clearance code C and tolerance code M compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before handling or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or Allen key to seat the clamping screw to toolholder manufacturer specifications - do not over-torque the screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and may crack under excessive clamping force. Confirm the insert is fully seated in the pocket and the cutting edge is oriented correctly for the programmed tool path before resuming operation.
