The WALTER 6422459 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for precision slitting and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. It carries the WSM33S grade designation and belongs to the Tiger-tec Silver series, which uses a PVD-applied TiAlN/Al2O3/Al multilayer coating engineered for thermal resistance and edge stability. The insert has a 3.00 mm cutting width (0.1181 inches), a neutral lead angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a CF5 chipbreaker geometry. It is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder and is single-ended. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert in production and job-shop environments where consistent chip control and tool life on difficult materials are required.
This insert is intended for slitting and cutoff work on superalloys, stainless steels, and steels, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes S, M, and P. The CF5 chipbreaker geometry is suited for applications where reliable chip evacuation is critical, particularly when parting off bar stock or slotting in interrupted-cut conditions. Material grades S30, M30, and P35 define the recommended application range. The neutral hand and neutral lead angle make this insert compatible with straight parting toolholders without requiring left- or right-hand orientation matching.
Designed for use in clamp-style SX-series parting and grooving toolholders that accept the 3E300N02 insert size. Compatible with material grades S30, M30, and P35, covering superalloy, stainless steel, and steel workpiece applications per ISO and ANSI standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Ensure the clamp and toolholder pocket are clean and free of chips before inserting to maintain proper seating and cutting-edge alignment. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not overtighten.
