The WALTER 6194899 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade WSM33S and is finished with a multi-layer PVD coating consisting of Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN, delivering thermal resistance and edge wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a 2 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 15 mm, and a 1.5 mm corner radius. The GX clamp-style holding method provides rigid seating under interrupted cuts and high-feed conditions. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers specify this insert for demanding turning applications.
This insert is engineered for use on superalloys, stainless steels, and steel workpiece materials corresponding to material grades S30, M30, and P35. It is suited to medium and finishing passes in both production and job-shop turning environments. The CF5 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance grooves where chip packing and surface finish are critical. Its right-hand orientation matches standard OD grooving toolholders configured for left-to-right cutting direction on a conventional lathe setup.
Designed for use in GX-style clamping toolholders compatible with the Tiger-tec insert series. ANSI code GX161E200R15CF5 WSM33S and ISO code GX16-1E200R15-CF5 govern toolholder selection. Verify toolholder seat size and clamp style against the manufacturer catalog before installation.
Insert replacement and toolholder seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle locked, and all axes at a safe reference position. Clean the insert pocket and clamp surfaces before seating the new insert to prevent seating errors that cause premature edge failure. Torque the clamp fastener to the toolholder manufacturer specification using a calibrated torque driver. Do not regrind or recoat this insert; retire it at first sign of edge chipping or coating breakdown.
