The WALTER 6193843 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving operations on CNC turning and grooving machines. Carrying the WSM33S grade designation and finished with a PVD-applied Al2O3, TiAlN, and ZrCN multilayer coating, this insert delivers controlled wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting applications. It features a 4.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.80 mm. The neutral hand orientation and double-ended design extend usable tool life. It is part of the Walter Tiger-tec Silver series, which targets high-performance machining of difficult-to-cut materials. Machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians working with superalloys and stainless steels are the primary end users.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations on superalloys, stainless steels, and general steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M, P, and S. The UD4 chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control in these material groups. Typical installation scenarios include external grooving on horizontal and vertical turning centers where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are critical. The insert seats into compatible GX-style clamp-type toolholders and is appropriate for both production shops and precision job shops requiring tight dimensional tolerances on grooved features.
Designed for use in GX-style clamp-type grooving toolholders compatible with the GX243E400N04UD4 insert form factor, per ANSI and ISO standards. ANSI code: GX243E400N04UD4 WSM33S. ISO code: GX24-3E400N04-UD4.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition before handling cutting inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for GX-style seats. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as geometry deviations directly affect groove width accuracy.
