The WALTER 6159622 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG322-MK5 WKK20S configuration, part of the Tiger-tec Silver series. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN for thermal resistance and wear performance during high-productivity cutting operations. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 14 degrees, making it suited for stable, repeatable passes in turning, facing, and boring applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators install these inserts on indexable toolholders in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for cast iron as the primary workpiece material and steel as the secondary workpiece material, consistent with material grades K20 and P10. The MK5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style support controlled chip formation across a range of depths. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm). With four cutting edges per insert and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, it fits well in high-throughput turning centers running ferrous materials. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO equivalent designation CNMG090308-MK5 WKK20S.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMG322-MK5 WKK20S inserts. Compatible with standard CNMG-style indexable turning toolholders accepting clamp or pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations per manufacturer specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-tighten the clamp screw, as this can crack the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for damage or debris before seating a new insert.
