The WALTER 6154559 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in steel and stainless steel applications. Manufactured to the P48448E57 insert style and graded WXP40, this insert uses a PVD coating process and belongs to the Tiger Tec series. The square shape provides four usable cutting edges, extending tool life and reducing cost per hole. It features an 8.41 mm inscribed circle, a 0.048 mm corner radius, and a thickness of 0.132 inches. The E57 chipbreaker geometry supports reliable chip control in demanding cutting conditions. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working with indexable drill bodies.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling operations in both production and job-shop environments. It targets primary workpiece materials coded M and P, covering stainless steel and general steel. The right-hand cutting direction and 90-degree included angle make it compatible with standard indexable drill body configurations. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in components requiring close tolerances and consistent surface finish. The WXP40 grade is positioned for moderate to demanding cuts where edge toughness and coating adhesion are critical.
Designed for use in indexable drill bodies that accept P48448E57 style square inserts with an insert size code of 48 and a 0.3310 inch inscribed circle diameter. Verify body seat geometry and clamping style against the ISO code P4841C-4R-E57 WXP40 before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the torque specification provided by the drill body manufacturer for the clamping screw - do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Confirm cutting direction and insert orientation match the drill body design before returning the tool to service.
